Coco Chanel once said, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
Why wear a slip? If you can see
Trust us, a great dress slip will make you feel like a movie star.
A modern day dress slip is quite a functional wardrobe essential. Providing modesty when wearing sheer dresses and tops, protecting your skin from fabrics that may irritate for example wool, enhancing your outfit with a nice line and fall to your dress or skirt and preventing garments from sticking to your body or stockings.
Slips were originally designed to not be visible however with the advent of fashion “layering” the slip has evolved becoming also a “Slip Dress”. Resort wear is the perfect example of how a slip has crossed boundaries and can add impact and colour to your outfit.
When choosing a slip for a sheer dress you have a few options. If the fabric is patterned the depth of the print is altered by the slip. A darker coloured slip black, brown or grey will deepen the print and by contrast a lighter colour slip nude (crema) or white will brighten and lighten the print. Resort wear allows you to venture into different colours adding interest and vibrancy to your outfit.
*To add some vibrancy to a printed kaftan match one of the colours in the print with a coloured slip.
*A sheer white chiffon kaftan or a lacy dress can look gorgeous layered with a coloured slip.
Natural fibre or man-made they both have their own special qualities. I previously thought that natural would have to be better however I have found through research and wearing man-made fabrics they have some wonderful properties. Keeping in mind there are varying qualities of Nylon. Breathable Nylon micro fibre is cool to wear wicking moisture away from the body, easy to care for, durable and garments drape nicely over the top. Micro fibre also does not seem to have as much static as regular satin Nylon. Anti Static Spray
Cotton voile made from natural plant fibres is a very lightweight fabric which layers well under free flowing resort wear making it a great Summer Slip. Adapts well to being useful as a “nightie” or a “Slip dress”
We all have varying preferences with how we like a fabric to feel… silky, soft or light… also how we like a garment to fit… close to the body or more loosely fitting.
